Bug - don't know how to describe it and it's random

Sometimes when I remove a layer and then re-add it (because the update is bugged) I see this error and it's a "QGIS freeze" i have to force quit the app and any unsaved information is lost.

Repeatable, just delete layer and add back .. do that 20 times for a folder with 200+ photos and you'll get this bug.

Some more info - while it seems to sometimes happen randomly, I noticed this also PERSISTENTLY happens when I have a layer with let's say 200 photos in a folder.
now I move a bunch of photos to another folder
I now first press refresh this layer and it reports the photos have been removed from that layer
Now I add the photos in the new folder to a new layer.. - at voila, there's the output file error too

That's one scenario I found where it's persistent and repeatable
