GoPro 8 Black support

Hi there!
First of all, great initiative, thank you!

I was wondering if there is a possibility to get gp 8 holder and protector?
I'm currently working on a mount for our local frame (DRC Flow) but I'm just a hobbyist and my CAD skills are limited :D
I also assume I can create a PR when my design will be ready? What should be included in it?

this is awesome news, GoPro 8 was highly requested!
Yes sending a PR that includes the new STLs and STEPs files would be the preferred way to contribute.

If you need help and guidance to get started we can discuss the design changes in this comment.

I suggest reading the "How to contribute" sections, specifically the part for a new camera holder, it provides a few pointers to get started.
I can also help by trying to adapt the GoPro 5/6/7 holder but I need measurements of the GoPro 8.

p.s. If you are using Fusion360 you can access all designs as reference to create new ones.
p.p.s. in case you want to add support for the DRC Flow feel free to file a separate request, looking at the frame design it just be quite straightforward.

It would be great if you could adapt adapt the GoPro 5/6/7 holder for GP8, I'm almost finished with the frame adapter :)
I've measured my camera and it is:
Body:
66.60mm wide
48.2mm tall
24.6mm thick
Lens:
32.60mm wide
32.60mm tall
3.81mm thick

I've tried to be as precise as possible, but i feel my calipers are starting to go off a bit so let's say it is accurate to 0.02mm.

Is the lenses aligned on the top right corner of the GoPro or is there any gap?

It is completly flat with top and right corner

One more thing, I need the front screen measurements (size and position)

Here is a first prototype of the GoPro Hero 8 Holder.
Could try printing it and suggest adjustments, would be great if you could document by taking photos.

Ok, the result is almost perfect, I forgot to measure position of the record button previously (sorry for that!) and it needs to be ~7 mm bigger (look at the button photo).

Is there a 1mm gap between the camera screen and the back of the mount? We need that in order to install the screen protector. If you want I can send you the STL for the screen protection to test the fit?

I was about to print the screen protector isn't it universal? Judging by the eye it looks like there is enough space to put protector.
You can send me the screen protector stl (if it's different from the available one):)

Additionally I think it would be a good idea to have some kind of frame around the lens, just enough to protect the lens from being smashed against something unexpected :D

Ok, I've printed the screen protector and it fits quite nice into your design (I've printed it without those spikes), but unfortunately when centering it with the camera screen I need to move whole mount ~4mm to the left as shown on the picture below:

Alright, I need some additional data.

Screen protection:

• Is it big enough? is the full screen covered especially the corners?
• Could you send me a picture of the back of the GoPro inside the mount with the screen protection on?

Lens protection:

• The holder prototype was without lens protection to help assess the fitting, the final version will include it.
• I'll send you a STL to test the lens protection and one to test both holder + lens protection

Adjustments:

1. move the lens hole 4mm to the right
2. move front screen 4mm to the right and 0.5mm to the bottom
3. increase button hole length by (9mm + 4mm) and shift it 1mm to the back
4. anything else? Maybe could you send (top, front and back) pictures with the screen centred on the screen protection?

The screen is ~ 58mm x 40mm. Current screen protector covers it but I feel it could be a bit larger (maybe +1 mm in both dimensions).

I positioned camera in the holder as precise as I could and measured the gap between lens and mount again it shows now 3mm (not 4mm as per previous measurement).

Record button is 14.5mm x 14.5mm and its positioned ~10mm from the left edge.

I have update the design, and exported the STL for:

• the lens protection only (to test the fitting)
• the holder + lens protection (I suggest you to try this only if the lens protection fits well)

Regarding the screen protection, If the current one fully covers the screen I would keep it as is. This way we don't have to maintain two different screen protections but we can use the same for all GoPros.
