How does USB security software like https://github.com/usbshield/usbshield can co-exist with your USB mechanism? Can I enable veracrypt defense while using USBShield?

VeraCrypt treats the appearance of a new USB device as suspicious and does not currently consult USBShield before taking
action.

To reduce false positives, VeraCrypt already ignores software/pseudo devices and also builds a baseline of devices that were already present when the option was enabled. So devices that were already connected should normally not trigger it, but genuinely new USB devices inserted afterward may do so by design.

That being said, I agree there is room for a possible future enhancement here: an optional whitelist policy in VeraCrypt for trusted devices, so that administrators could exclude specific devices from this detection and better align VeraCrypt behavior with tools such as USBShield.

The most sensible form of such a whitelist would likely be based on Windows device IDs or prefixes, for example allowing either one exact device instance or a broader VID/PID pattern. This would make the feature more flexible for managed environments.

However, this would remain a tradeoff: the stricter current behavior gives stronger protection, while any whitelist would intentionally reduce that strictness. In particular, a whitelist based only on VID/PID is broader and less secure than an exact device identity match.

So for now, the current answer is: if this VeraCrypt option is enabled, users should assume that inserting a new USB device may trigger it, regardless of whether another security product would later allow that device.
